6.2 Push the Code to a Remote Repository and Deploy with EdgeOne Pages
What makes deployment feel intimidating is that, on the surface, it involves a lot of terms: repository, remote, build, platform, environment variables, logs. But for the basic version, you only need to get the loop running first. Start by pushing your code to a remote repository, because it serves both as a backup and as the source your deployment platform reads from; then connect that repository to a deployment platform and publish the project using a default option that is more accessible from within China, such as EdgeOne Pages.
First, remember this path
The basic version does not require you to fully understand deployment principles all at once. You only need to remember this minimal path for now:
Local project
-> Remote repository
-> Deployment platform
-> Public URLOnce this chain is working, your project no longer exists only on your own computer.
Why you need to push to a remote repository first
Many beginners ask: if I already have the code locally, why do I still need to go to GitHub or Gitee first? The reason is simple: here, the remote repository takes on two roles at the same time:
- It is your code backup
- It is also the source the deployment platform reads from
So this step is not redundant; it is part of the release pipeline.
For the first deployment, just get it working
What matters most here is not understanding every underlying detail, but avoiding trapping yourself in the mindset of “I’ll deploy after I understand everything.” For your first deployment, the goal is simply to get it working, not to understand every configuration in one go. Many default values are perfectly fine to use at first. The basic version also does not require you to enter a collaborative workflow here. You do not need to learn branching strategies, PRs, or team processes right now.
You only need to complete the minimal path:
- Create a remote repository
- Push your local code to it
- Connect the repository in EdgeOne Pages
- Run it once using the default build configuration
- Get your first accessible URL
At that point, the project has truly left your computer.
If deployment fails, check the logs first, then hand them to AI
If something fails along the way, do not immediately doubt whether you fundamentally do not know what you are doing. Check the logs first, then paste them into AI and let it help you determine whether the issue is with the build command, environment variables, or platform settings.
